Conversations With Alien Believers

Keywords: ancient alien theory, aliens, conspiracy, video

I make it a point to make sure not to wall myself off from people who believe differently than I do.  I don't want to only listen to fall into the trap of listening only within the bounds of an echo chamber of opinions.  I've gotten several invitations to participate in online discussions with believers in the Ancient Aliens theory, and I've taken some part in those, though I've gotten busy and haven't been able to devote as much time to the endeavour as I'd like to.

In any case, I thought it would be interesting to share some of my conversations here.  Most recently, I was emailed by an individual who was commenting about my article on mercury vortex engines.  Regarding the alleged TR-3B machine (which, as I've said, is really cool), he had this to say:

I Have recently been fascinated by articles about the Mercury plasma accelerator or Magnetic field disruptor in the Air Force's black ops air ship dubbed the TR-3B Astra. I definitely think there is a cover up in progress! "ALL" of the The video of the Air ship that WAS available has mysteriously been deleted from the web. Including one particular clip that showed the craft emit the tell-tale orb of light that emanates from a particle accelerator, completely engulf the craft and then suddenly disappears in  blinding flash. The distinct green mercury plasma spectrum color was present during the video as well.......HMMmmm!?!?

Basically, he's alleging that there was such a video available, but it's mysteriously disappeared without a trace from the Internet.  This is certainly a remarkable claim indeed... but I can't make anything of it without even any evidence that such a video ever existed.  I wrote back to him:

Alexander And The UFO

Keywords: historical, ancient alien theory, aliens, link

I just came across this fascinating article when looking up the claim that Alexander The Great encountered a group of UFO's:

The story is that Alexander came across a group of "flying shields" during the siege of Tyre.  The story apparently originated with Frank Edwards, who I've run across before when looking for the source of a story about a psychic detective

The guy never bothered to list any of his sources, and I get the feeling that at least half the time he just pulled stuff out of thin air.  That certainly seems to be the case here, because there's absolutely no historical account that backs up Edwards' story as he described it.

It still amazes me how many of the stories and claims that I've looked into are based on absolutely nothing.  When I first started writing this blog I expected that most such stories would at least have some kernel of verifiable truth that has been taken out of context and exaggerated beyond all recognition.

But contrary to my naive expectations, it seems like a good deal of the time, perhaps even most of the time, there's just nothing there.  Somebody pulled the story right out of thin air, and that's all there is too it.

It makes the whole endeavour just a little bit anti-climactic.  But I guess that's the way things go.

Ebook Recommendation: How To Make The Most Of A Flying Saucer Experience

Keywords: link, aliens, book

Today I want to talk to you about being abducted by aliens for fun and profit!

This is a fun, tongue-in-cheek book about the flying saucer phenomenon by Professor Solomon available as a free download online.  Professor Solomon has figured out the reason that aliens are visiting us and can tell you the best way to enjoy your abduction experience.

And he's set up a live webcam on an alien ship to record his abduction adventure.  If you're lucky, maybe you'll catch a glimpse of him cavorting with an alien:

I Think I've Got It!

Keywords: aliens, ancient alien theory

As you know, I've been puzzling for the past few days about what Tsoukalos could have possibly been talking about with that statement on the white paper-like substance.

That in itself should tell you how much of a dumbass I am.  A smart person would have just left it as is and wasted no more thought on it.  But I've got this compulsion to track things down to their source and figure out exactly where the claims are coming from.  And Thoukalos' statement is just begging for somebody to figure it out.

I haven't found the exact source of the quote yet, but I noticed something while looking over yesterday's entry about the forum thread.  What I noticed was that I made a mistake when transcribing Tsoukalos' quote.

Tsoukalos actually said that "they wrote on it".  I heard "they rode on it", which seemed a little strange, but then that's par for the course in this show.

Once I realized my mistake, something clicked.  White paper that they write on in order to generate magical effects.... that sounds like Shinto paper charms, aka Ofuda.  These are usually just good luck or protection charms, but in folk tales, as well as anime, they're often used in order to perform magical feats.

Sailor Mars And Her Ofuda
Sailor Mars Reporting For Pyramid Building Duty!

My guess is that he's going off of an account of a Shinto folk tale in which an Ofuda was used to move a stone.  He says it moved by six feet, which sounds to me like perhaps somebody in the story wanted to move a stone away from a cave entrance or something.

I've been searching for such a story, and have found a few where Ofuda's are used to create a magical effect, but I haven't found anything that looks like it might be Tsoukalos' source yet.

But while I don't know his exact source, I feel confident that this is what he was talking about.  This is the same guy, after all, who believed that the tale of King Solomon's flying carpet was actually a reference to an alien airship.

I found Tsoukalos' email address a couple of days ago and asked if he could clarify his statement.  I haven't gotten any response back yet.  My guess is that even he knows that this claim is weak, and doesn't want to talk about it.

If anybody knows of a folk tale that Tsoukalos could possibly be referring to, write a comment here and let me know.

Still Looking For That Magical White Substance

Keywords: aliens, ancient alien theory

I've been looking for information about that magical white substance that Giorgio Tsoukalos mentioned.  No luck yet, but I did find an interesting thread on the History Channel's online forum from a few months ago.

I love the way it starts out:

I find it hilarious that this was his "only issue" with the show.  Apparently, even the believers who accept all the rest of the nonsense that I've been debunking are saying "Hey Tsoukalos... what the hell, man?"

There were some nice skeptical posts in there, which is refreshing to see:

A couple of people mentioned the possibility that the white substance could be something called "monoatomic gold".  From what I can gather online, this appears to only be some sort of snake oil alternative medicine product... nothing that would grant anything like levitation abilities.

Nothing else in the thread lead anywhere productive.  Although one person interestingly decided to comment on Mr. Tsoukalos'  physical appearance:

I'm not sure what he means by that, I thought Mr. Tsoukalos had a perfectly fine hairstyle...

Okay, so it might seem odd to some people.... but I'm sure that's just the result of the aliens beaming this knowledge directly into his brain.

In any case, the final post of the thread reads:

I would have guessed that it had more to do with "special herbs".... but what do I know?

The Evidence For Advanced Ancient Construction

Keywords: aliens, ancient alien theory, conspiracy, historical

It's high time I tackled another Ancient Aliens segment!

(For more context, see my first three articles here, here, and here.  You can view the episode here.  Also see my follow up article on the golden flyer, and my recent article about mercury vortex engines)

The last three segments dealt mostly with flight, but we're finally moving away from that.  Now we're talking about construction techniques, and this is the topic that I see most frequently brought up in support of Ancient Aliens theory by theorists and laypeople alike.

Everybody knows that the pyramids are seriously big-ass buildings, made up of big, heavy stones.  Many people wonder, if the ancient Egyptians didn't have modern machinery, how the hell did they do it?

The Evidence For Ancient Communications

Keywords: aliens, ancient alien theory, conspiracy, historical

You've gotta love this Ancient Aliens stuff.  It's time to take a look at the third segment of this episode, where they talk about the evidence for an ancient worldwide communications network.

Ancient Aliens The Series

We might as well just label this segment "Ancient Flight Part 3", since they're just talking more about what they consider to be evidence for ancient flying ships.

You can view this episode here,  Each segment corresponds roughly to one of the ten minute YouTube entries.  So this third segment begins in the third YouTube video, beginning at 2:57.  The segment ends in the fourth video at 3:32.

You can see my reviews of the first two segments here and here.

So, let's get our hands dirty and look at the new claims being made here.

A New Angle On The "Golden Flyer"

Keywords: aliens, ancient alien theory

I was looking through a book that I bought a few years ago from Time Inc. called "Exploring The Unexplained".  I found a really nicely lighted close up image of the so-called "Golden Flyer" from the "Ancient Aliens" documentary (See my analysis so far here and here, and watch the show here)

I scanned the image to post it here because it provides a beautiful close-up view of the artifact that you just don't get from the documentary.  And guess what?  You can clearly see two eyes, a nose, and a toothy, claymation-esque grin:

Golden Flyer Close Up

The documentary shows the artifact mostly at an angle and in lighting conditions that don't allow you to see the face as easily:

Ancient Fighter Jet

You can barely see a hint of the mouth, and since the nose and eyes are a bit fanciful, at this angle you can easily mistake them for random designs.  And, of course, they completely removed the face from their scaled up propeller plane version.

I suppose it's possible that they sculpted the hull of the aircraft into a face.... but there's absolutely no reason to expect that's what's going on here.

Ancient Aliens Clips

Keywords: aliens, ancient alien theory, link

Being the dumbass that I am, I only just realized that this Ancient Aliens show that I've been criticizing (Click on "ancient alien theory" under keywords above to see all the articles) is probably on YouTube.

The thing is, I realize that these kinds of videos can often be deleted from YouTube without notice, leaving all blogs that have embedded them with broken links.  So it's not ideal for writing articles that you hope to be accessible well into the future.

But, at least while it's available, I'll display these videos for your viewing pleasure.  You can make sure that I'm being fair in my analysis and criticisms of the show, and make comments on statements that I have yet to cover.

The clips have been deleted from YouTube.  As an alternative, use this link to view the show instead.

The Evidence For Ancient Spaceflight

Keywords: aliens, ancient alien theory, conspiracy, historical

Time to tackle the next section of evidence presented in episode 1 of Ancient Aliens!

Ancient Aliens Logo

It's another 10 minutes dealing with the kind of evidence that these guys find compelling as reasons to believe that ancient man was visited by beings from the stars.

If you haven't already, go ahead and read my review of the first 13 minutes, which looks at their evidence for ancient flying machines.

And if you're all caught up, then let's get started!
